Big 4 are getting more M&A work than ever before. In order to handle that business they need more experienced seniors to fill seats as well as a bunch of grads. And given there is a general shortage of experienced accountants willing to do public accounting hours, you see a lot of willingness to make internal transfers happen.
The first was to levelset how few partners are actually made each year. There are less than 10,000 partners in the Big 4 combined (all practices) with roughly 75% of those being audit partners. Our firm is in the neighborhood of 2,000 partners with 50-70 new partners each year with the audit numbers being consistent around 75%.

Thinking about leaving Big 4 Audit. I think I've come to a point of "fuck it". I'm tired of audit after being here for a year and a few months, I'm mentally over it and just have a severe lack of motivation to continue within interim let alone another busy season.

The big 4 accounting firms are typically all on this list. It would be really hard for them not to be on this because of the amount of people they employ. Additionally the big 4 accounting firms make money off their employees, so they need to have as many of them as possible. Big 4 employees are also mostly all professionals.
